You smash it out of the stadium and into the car park

Kinja'd!!!

....then find the car you hit is your own.

Which happened to Irish international cricketer Kevin O’Brien this week.

O’Brien’s got a bit of a rep as a big hitter: he holds the record for the fastest century in Cricket World Cup history. Bet he’s regretting that now.

That is a seriously unlikely event. If only he had hit his rival’s car parked next to him.

As much as American dealers suck, I’m glad they haven’t adopted those dealer window stickers...

It’s a sponsored car. Apparently he’s a brand ambassador for the dealership.

Many dealers put them on loaner cars. It won't be long before they do the same on delivered cars.

and that’s the difference between an athlete and an amateur: on a good day, I can foul one off and hit a ran dom car in the church parking lot next to the rec-league ball field, but I can’t:

a) hit my own car

b) hit the window square-on

c) hit the window hard enough to shatter the safety glass (seriously, you see the videos online of guys with hammers bouncing right off that stuff?)

d) any of the above

e) get paid for it

The brea king stuff bit is probably easier in cricket than baseball, since the ball is smaller, heavier, and harder, and the bat is heavier and flatter meaning harder hits (hence why a cricket oval’s about half as big again as a baseball ground).

But yes. The difference between even a talented amateur and a pro in just about any fie ld of sport is enormous. I had that one brought home to me back in the 80s when I was lucky enough to get a ride-along in a group B rally car with a WRC driver. Up to that day, I’d thought I knew what I was doing in a car...

He should know better than to park were he did.  I’m sure other cars have been hit in that lot in the past.

Maybe, maybe not:  O’Brien’s a big hitter even by international pro standards. Though it reminds me of a story - t here’s a cricket ground in Wellington,NZ called the Basin Reserve, which is famously small for an international grade oval. The car dealer across the road used to have a promotional gimmick that any cricketer who hit one of their cars could have it for free. They gave that up in the early 80s when Lance Cairns (another O’Brien style big hitter) took half a dozen off them in the space of a couple of years. Back then professional cricketers didn’t earn that much, and Cairns had figured out that if he belted enough of them in that general direction he could supplement his income....

Sounds like a poorly thought out promotion. Also an excellent motivational tool.

playing cricket in the street, any ball into a neighbours yard was always “6, and out”, any ball causing damage was simply “6, and game is over, you lose, EVEYRONE RUN!”
